The Dover, Delaware-based company said it had profit of $1.64 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to $1.40 per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.34 per share.
The energy and utility company posted revenue of $239.4 million in the period.
Chesapeake Utilities shares have declined 3 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has climbed almost 5 percent in the last 12 months.
