Chicago mayor announces $1.5 billion in roadway, water and transportation projects
CHICAGO (AP) -- Chicago officials say more than $1.5 billion in water, road and transit projects will be completed coming months, as part of the city's Building a New Chicago infrastructure program.
Among the investments are upgraded security cameras at all Chicago Transit Authority elevated train stations, 35 miles of new bike lanes, completion of the Wells Street Bridge over the Chicago River and the installation of new water mains and sewers.
City officials are releasing a schedule of estimated completion time for the various projects so that area residents can plan commutes.
The $7 billion Building a New Chicago infrastructure program was announced last year. It is expected to create more than 30,000 jobs over a three year period. It is financed through a combination of local, state and federal funds.
