SECAUCUS, N.J. (AP) _ The Children's Place Retail Stores Inc. (PLCE) on Wednesday reported fiscal first-quarter net income of $4.5 million.
The Secaucus, New Jersey-based company said it had net income of 28 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 36 cents per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 48 cents per share.
The children's clothing and accessories chain posted revenue of $412.4 million in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $395.6 million.
For the current quarter ending in August, The Children's Place said it expects revenue in the range of $415 million to $420 million. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $571.5 million.
The company expects full-year earnings in the range of $5.75 to $6.25 per share, with revenue ranging from $1.91 billion to $1.93 billion.
The Children's Place shares have risen 24% since the beginning of the year. The stock has fallen 16% in the last 12 months.
