China reports 1,494 new coronavirus cases for Aug 26 vs 1,628 a day earlier

SHANGHAI, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Mainland China reported 1,494 new coronavirus cases for Aug. 26, of which 300 were symptomatic and 1,194 were asymptomatic, the National Health Commission said on Saturday.

That compared with 1,628 new cases a day earlier - 312 symptomatic and 1,316 asymptomatic infections, which China counts separately.

There were no new deaths, leaving the nation's fatalities at 5,226. As of Friday, mainland China had confirmed 241,648 cases with symptoms.

China's capital Beijing reported three local cases after five days of no infections, government data showed.

Financial hub Shanghai reported one new local symptomatic case, the same as the previous day, and seven local asymptomatic case, versus one the previous day.

Holiday destination Sanya on the southern end of Hainan island, which is battling an outbreak, reported 6,345 symptomatic and 8,798 asymptomatic cases from Aug. 1 through Friday. (Reporting by Josh Horwitz; Editing by William Mallard)
