China reports 820 new COVID cases for Sept 30 vs 867 a day earlier

BEIJING, Oct 1 (Reuters) - China reported 820 new COVID-19 cases on Sept. 30, of which 172 were symptomatic and 648 were asymptomatic, the National Health Commission said on Saturday.

That compared with 867 new cases a day earlier - 156 symptomatic and 711 asymptomatic infections, which China counts separately.

There were no new deaths, the same as the previous day, keeping the nation's fatalities at 5,226. As of Friday, mainland China had confirmed 250,621 cases with symptoms.

China's capital Beijing reported one new local symptomatic case and one new local asymptomatic case, compared with one local symptomatic case and no local asymptomatic cases the previous day.

Financial hub Shanghai reported three new local asymptomatic cases and no new symptomatic cases, compared with six asymptomatic and zero symptomatic cases a day before. (Reporting by Ryan Woo; Editing by William Mallard)
