Cigna appoints McCarthy as CFO

Cigna says McCarthy to replace Nicoletti as chief financial officer

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (AP) -- Cigna Corp. said Monday that it has appointed Thomas A. McCarthy as its executive vice president and chief financial officer.

McCarthy, currently Cigna's vice president of finance, will succeed Ralph J. Nicoletti in July. Nicoletti is leaving the company for personal reasons, according to Cigna.

The company, based in Bloomfield, Conn., said that McCarthy will draw from many years of experience and success at Cigna.

McCarthy joined the company in 1980 has held a variety of roles. He left Cigna in 1999 and rejoined in 2003, and has worked in a variety of positions since then, including working as interim chief financial officer between 2010 and 2011.

Shares of the health and life insurance company added 21 cents to close at $69.03.
