FORT LAUDERDALE, FL--(Marketwired - Sep 17, 2014) - Saturday night, September 20, will see a quarter-mile long block party in celebration of National Drive Electric Week in Flagler Village, Fort Lauderdale, 5pm - 11pm. The Night Owl Market / Drive Electric Event will originate in Peter Feldman Park (310 NE 6th Street) and run several blocks down 3rd Avenue. This gigantic community event features art, music, food, games and demonstrations all focused on green, sustainable living. Fort Lauderdale entrepreneur K. Stephen Tsingas, president of City Power Marketing, LLC., has donated $2,000 to the event and will be bringing his family's Tesla Model S to the party.
The Night Owl Market is a celebration of art, small business, community and sustainability in South Florida. The market's key initiative is to promote the sustainable amenities of Flagler Village, including the launch of Flagler Farm, a crop-sharing community garden, the launch of a new monthly green market, new charging stations being built around the Village and more. Small businesses will bring their pop-up shops to the Market and over 15 food trucks will be on-site. Vegan options will abound. And tying it in to National Drive Electric Week, dozens of local electric vehicle dealers and enthusiasts will be joining to demonstrate, offer test drives and answer questions. City Power Marketing LLC, based in Fort Lauderdale, has been a vocal advocate of electric vehicle adoption making the event a natural one to support.
"These are the kinds of events that I live for," says K. Stephen Tsingas, president and founder of City Power Marketing. "They bring the notion of 'green economy' down to the grassroots level, where people can participate in both demonstrations and hands-on experiences. I'm looking forward to showing my own Tesla at the market. I want people to understand that electric vehicles are cheaper to fuel, cheaper to maintain and overall, less polluting."
It was while working for the Atlantic City Electric Company in New Jersey that K. Stephen Tsingas got inspired and obsessed with electric vehicles. As an engineer representing the company, he argued at public hearings in the New Jersey capital, pushing for the adoption of an electric vehicle program. He was shocked and dismayed seeing the efforts that major automakers spent to quash the proposal and in response, he founded his first company, City Power Marketing, LLC., which has since become a leader in the power trading industry. Tsingas has been a lifelong natural entrepreneur. Emigrating to the United States from Greece with his family at age 10, he committed himself to getting a college education which meant financing it through numerous small jobs -- from mowing lawns to repairing cars to delivering pizzas. He ultimately earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Widener University (Chester, PA) and eventually an MBA from the University of Maryland, as well as other merits and certificates, including a Professional Engineer license. He resides in Fort Lauderdale, FL, with his wife and two small children. When not working at City Power Marketing LLC, he devotes time to community building activities and local philanthropic causes.
