Clear Your Calendar, Because Netflix's Original Holiday Movies Are Upon Us

Binge-watchers must have landed on the nice list this year, because Netflix’s original holiday movies line-up just dropped — and the details alone are already shifting us from Halloween vibes into the winter holiday spirit. Netflix’s 2019 end-of-year lineup has a little bit of everything, from very merry rom-coms to holly-jolly animated movies full of Christmas-tradition potential.

Since the summer stretched on for roughly one million scorching hot days this year, perhaps Netflix took pity on everyone to give its subscribers a sneak peek of just how much there truly is to look forward to now that summer is over. While Netflix is introducing plenty of brand-new content, like Holiday In The Wild with Sex and the City’s Kristin Davis, there are also sequels to beloved holiday content from years past — and yes, we are talking about a third installment of 2017 hit A Christmas Prince.

More from SheKnows

Finally, we have to admit that Netflix’s ability to attract A-list talent is one of the things that makes their original content so fun. This year’s holiday line-up includes stars including Joan Cusack, J.K. Simmons, Jason Schwartzman, and Maya Rudolph, and we’re so excited to see the final product. Here’s a detailed look at all the holiday content Netflix has planned.

Holiday In The Wild – November 1

First on the docket for Netflix this holiday season: Holiday in the Wild, a romantic drama that follows a jilted woman as she embarks on a solo African safari, where she meets a handsome elephant conservationist. Kristin Davis and Rob Lowe snagged the starring roles.

Let It Snow – November 8

Let It Snow is based on a John Green book (co-written with Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle), so consider yourself warned — and bring tissues. The movie follows a group of high school seniors whose lives are changed forever one Christmas Eve, and the cast includes Isabela Merced, Shameik Moore, Odeya Rush, Liv Hewson, Mitchell Hope, Kiernan Shipka, Jacob Batalon and Joan Cusack.

The Great British Baking Show: Holidays Season 2 – November 8

We can’t think of a cozier combo than The Great British Baking Show and a holiday theme, and luckily Netflix has provided once again. There will be two holiday special episodes, titled “The Great British Christmas Bake Off” and “The Great Festive Bake Off,” and both will feature former competitors.

Klaus – November 15

For families with kids, Klaus is certainly the stand-out. The movie, directed by Despicable Me‘s co-creator, follows Jesper (Jason Schwartzman) — the “postal academy’s worst student” who gets shipped off to the Arctic Circle. There, he finds a few friends in a local teacher named Alva (Rashida Jones) and a mysterious carpenter named Klaus (J.K. Simmons). This gem also stars Joan Cusack and Norm Macdonald.

The Knight Before Christmas – November 21

Vanessa Hudgens swiftly became a Netflix holiday icon with last year’s The Princess Switch, but the Disney alum is going in a different direction this year. The Knight Before Christmas follows medieval knight Sir Cole, who time-travels to present day and meets Hudgens, an unlucky-in-love science teacher in Ohio. As you may have guessed from the above still, these two hit it off nicely.

Nailed It! Holiday Season 2 – November 22

Heck yes! On November 22, Season 2 of Nailed It! Holiday hits Netflix. This baking show takes unfortunate home chefs and has them compete for cash to see who can make the best (or in their case, least awful) dessert. Of course, they don’t make it easy for them — and the holiday seasons promise holiday-inspired challenges aplenty. This year, guest judges include Maya Rudolph, Jillian Bell, David Burkta, Bridget Everett, Jason Mantzoukas and Ron Ben Israel.

Holiday Rush – November 28

When single dad Rashon “Rush” Williams loses his job as a radio DJ, he’s forced to move in with his aunt — bringing with him his four children, who are all expecting expensive Christmas gifts. Rush works together with family to try and get back on the air, and teaches his kids how to get joy from the simpler things in life. The movie stars Romany Malco, Sonequa Martin-Green, Darlene Love, Tamala Jones, Deon Cole, LaLa Anthony, Roscoe Orman and Amarr M. Wooten.

Merry Happy Whatever – November 28

This TV series, described as a dark comedy, features Dennis Quaid as dad Don Quinn, a man who likes to be in charge — especially when it comes to his family. When his daughter brings home a new musician boyfriend for the holidays, Don finds himself tested like never before as their family tries to adjust to the new dynamic. The series also stars Bridgit Mendler, Brent Morin and Ashley Tisdale.

Sugar Rush Christmas – November 29

Netflix is really leaning into holiday-themed cooking shows this year, and we can’t blame them! It’s the perfect season for baking yummy treats at home, and these holiday specials are the perfect backdrop. Sugar Rush Christmas will include six Christmas-themed episodes, and features guest judges Tiffani Thiessen, Liza Koshy, Donal Skehan, Jeanine Mason, Amirah Kassem and Meryl Davis. Teams will compete to make the best Christmas-y treat and win that $10,000 reward.

A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby – December 5

Calling all royal fans! Rose McIver and Ben Lamb are reprising their roles as Amber and Prince Richard in the third installment of 2017’s A Christmas Prince. Much like our very own Sussex royals earlier this year, this royal couple is now expecting a baby — but when a meeting with the King and Queen of Penglia goes horribly wrong, the royal baby is saddled with a terrible curse. Amber has to find a way to stop it before — you guessed it — midnight on Christmas Eve.

Magic For Humans: Holiday Episode – December 2

Magician Justin Wilman regularly dazzles with his tricks, but he’ll have a special holiday twist to his show this December. Wilman visits Santa school to perform, then teaches young kids about the magic of giving in the holiday season. Sounds … magical.

Jingle Jangle – 2020

There are so many exciting aspects to this Netflix holiday project, and frankly, the only thing we’re mad at is having to wait until 2020. Jingle Jangle is a live action musical about a toymaker’s magical invention (so festive!), and it stars Hugh Bonneville, Forest Whitaker, Keegan-Michael Key, Phylicia Rashad, Anika Noni Rose and Madalen Mills. Oh, and it’s produced by John Legend’s Get Lifted, so you know the music will be on point.

Home For Christmas – TBA

This Netflix series is an entirely Norwegian project that follows 30-year-old Johanne, a woman sick and tired of hearing her family’s commentary about why she’s still single (hello, relatable). So, she does the only logical thing: sets out on a 24-day hunt for someone to bring home for the holidays. The series stars Ida Elise Broch, Felix Sandman, Kingsford Sayor and Mads Sjøgård Pettersen.

And if you just can’t wait for these releases? There are approximately a bajillion other holiday movies on Netflix already ready for streaming. It really is the most wonderful time of the year, isn’t it?
