Clemson, Oklahoma move to top of AP poll after Alabama, Miami losses

When the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country lose, that is bound to cause a shakeup in the rankings. That will be the case on Tuesday with the College Football Playoff rankings, and it was the case with Sunday’s Associated Press Top 25.

Following Alabama’s loss to Auburn and Miami’s loss to Pittsburgh, the Tide, No. 1 last week, dropped down to No. 5, while the Hurricanes, last week’s No. 2 are now No. 7.

As a result, Clemson and Oklahoma, who both won handily, moved up to Nos. 1 and 2 entering championship weekend.

Wisconsin, which completed an undefeated regular season by beating Minnesota, moved up from No. 5 to No. 3. Auburn, with the win over Alabama, is now No. 4. Georgia moved up one spot to No. 6 following a win over Georgia Tech, Ohio State remained at No. 8 after beating rival Michigan, Penn State moved up three spots to No. 9 after destroying Maryland and TCU, ticketed for a Big 12 title game matchup with Oklahoma, stayed at No. 10.

Entering the Pac-12 title game against No. 11 USC, Stanford jumped up to No. 14 (previously No. 20) after beating Notre Dame, which dropped six spots down to No. 15. Stanford will represent the Pac-12 North thanks to Washington State’s blowout loss to rival Washington. WSU slipped from No. 14 to No. 21 while UW moved up two spots to No. 13.

Also of note: Fresno State is now ranked for the first time since 2013. Fresno beat Boise State on Saturday. The two will meet again next weekend for the Mountain West championship.
