Cloud boosts Amazon's sales

The Web retail giant's Amazon Web Services will generate about $1.5 bil in revenue in '12, but faces stiff competition from Google (GOOG), Rackspace Hosting (RAX) and others in cloud computing, fin'l services firm R.W. Baird said. Amazon (AMZN) doesn't break out AWS sales, but it's believed to be a top contributor to its "other" operating revenue. In Q3, Amazon reported 68% sales growth for those businesses, to $648 mil, outpacing its overall 27% revenue growth. Amazon shares fell 0.1% to 243.40.
