GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) _ Cloud Peak Energy Inc. (CLD) on Thursday reported a loss of $20.1 million in its first quarter.
The Gillette, Wyoming-based company said it had a loss of 30 cents per share.
The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was breakeven on a per-share basis.
The coal miner posted revenue of $195.7 million in the period, which also missed Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $237.8 million.
In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, the company's shares hit $3.53. A year ago, they were trading at $2.57.
