CARMEL, Ind. (AP) _ CNO Financial Group Inc. (CNO) on Wednesday reported a third-quarter loss of $529.8 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
The Carmel, Indiana-based company said it had a loss of $3.22 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 53 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 52 cents per share.
The insurance holding company posted revenue of $1.48 billion in the period.
CNO shares have fallen 23 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $19.09, a fall of 20 percent in the last 12 months.
