WASHINGTON (AP) _ Cogent Communications Group Inc. (CCOI) on Thursday reported first-quarter earnings of $9.2 million.

The Washington-based company said it had net income of 20 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 19 cents per share.

The internet service provider posted revenue of $134.1 million in the period, falling short of Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $135.5 million.

Cogent shares have increased 22% since the beginning of the year.
