Is Columbia Banking System Inc (COLB) A Good Stock To Buy?

Even if you aren't comfortable with shorting stocks, you should at least avoid initiating long positions in our short portfolio.

Balyasny Asset Management, managed by Dmitry Balyasny, created the most outsized position in Columbia Banking System Inc (NASDAQ:COLB). Balyasny Asset Management had $5.9 million invested in the company at the end of the quarter. As you can see these stocks had an average of 15.25 hedge funds with bullish positions and the average amount invested in these stocks was $290 million. That figure was $133 million in COLB's case. Cyberark Software Ltd (NASDAQ:CYBR) is the most popular stock in this table. On the other hand Stantec Inc. (NYSE:STN) is the least popular one with only 5 bullish hedge fund positions. Columbia Banking System Inc (NASDAQ:COLB) is not the least popular stock in this group but hedge fund interest is still below average. This is a slightly negative signal and we'd rather spend our time researching stocks that hedge funds are piling on. In this regard CYBR might be a better candidate to consider a long position.
