Comedian with Tourette's Syndrome thrills judges on 'AGT'

On Tuesday’s America’s Got Talent, we met 30-year-old comedian Samuel J. Comroe from Los Angeles. While he chatted with the judges before his performance, we discovered that he has Tourette’s Syndrome. Diagnosed at the age of 6, Comroe had to deal with more than just the physical challenges while growing up.

“At school, I got bullied, nicknames, teased, being the one left out of things,” Comroe said during his pre-produced backstory segment. “There was really no safe zone.”

He now uses his Tourette’s as the centerpiece for his comedy routine. He jokes that people always commonly mistake his twitching for a sign that he’s trying to tell them a secret and talks about the time his parents sent him to a Tourette’s camp.

His brand of comedy is cathartic for him, but he also hopes it will help teach his new daughter about embracing differences and overcoming challenges through his example.

With tears in his eyes, Comroe accepted four “yeses” from the judges and will be heading through to the next round.
