FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) _ Community Health Systems Inc. (CYH) on Wednesday reported a loss of $328 million in its fourth quarter.
The Franklin, Tennessee-based company said it had a loss of $2.91 per share. Losses, adjusted for asset impairment costs and pretax expenses, came to 42 cents per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 58 cents per share.
The operator of accute care hospitals posted revenue of $3.45 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $3.39 billion.
In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, the company's shares hit $4.08. A year ago, they were trading at $5.87.
