OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) _ Compass Minerals International Inc. (CMP) on Tuesday reported first-quarter profit of $7.6 million.
On a per-share basis, the Overland Park, Kansas-based company said it had net income of 22 cents.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 1 cent per share.
The minerals producer posted revenue of $403.7 million in the period.
Compass shares have climbed 38% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $57.55, a fall of 14% in the last 12 months.
