Connor McDavid gets heckled on street, doesn't care

It’s been a rough go in Edmonton this season, and apparently not even the reigning NHL MVP — while he’s hanging out with family, no less — is immune from a good ole’ verbal jab to the face.

The Oilers captain was out and about with some members of his family this weekend, presumably his mother and father, when a couple of boneheads thought it’d be a bright idea to heckle the team’s best player and one of the lone bright spots of this dreadful 2017-18 campaign in Edmonton.

A video of the incident , captured by the hecklers themselves, was posted to Reddit Monday morning.

The Snapchat footage, with the caption reading “Had to press McDavid,” appears to show the group shouting,  “You’ve gotta start winning games man,” “You’re going to get traded,” (what?) and you’re not doing too well!”

There also appears to be a some type of deranged hyena cackling away in the background at these absolutely brilliant and original chirps laid forth by his buddy.

Asked his opinions on the recently-surfaced video, Oilers Head coach Todd McLellan cited not only his captain’s talent as one of the world’s elite, but also his charitable contributions and the impactful work the 21-year-old is constantly taking on in the community.

McDavid himself, taking the high road, had a slightly more brief but equally candid response.

“I’m not even going to talk about it, it’s nothing … It’s so not a big deal I’m not even going to say anything about it,” he said .

Obviously these ridiculous comments by a few faceless bros looking for a few minutes of viral fame don’t represent the dedicated Oilers fanbase as a whole in any way whatsoever, with legend Grant Fuhr chiming in and lamenting those responsible for heckling the one they call McJesus.

Despite essentially playing with — let’s just keep it PG13 and say ‘ subpar’ — wingers for most of the season, McDavid sits tied for second in the NHL with Evgeni Malkin in points (79), T-10th in goals (30) and T-4th with 1.22 points-per-game.

McDavid has 56 primary points on Edmonton’s 180 goals as a team this season — creating over 31 percent of the team’s total offence, tops in the NHL.
