SUTTON — Construction started Monday off Providence and Boston roads, where a local packaging company plans to open a 1-million-square-foot warehouse and manufacturing space.

UN1F1ED² Global Packaging, an international packaging company headquartered in Sutton, plans to erect two buildings on a 448-acre lot.

A representative of the contractor, RP Masiello Inc. of Boylston, did not specify how long the project will take to finish, but he did say that it will be "multiyear."

UN1F1ED² specializes in producing the elements needed for foam packaging, air pack packaging and wood packaging for industries that range from commercial to life sciences.

This will be the company's third manufacturing location in Sutton off Providence Road and the 11th in the state.

Owned by a partnership between The Kraft Group and Atlas Box and Crating Co., the company has a nationwide reach and locations in Ireland and Poland.

The new location in Sutton was previously owned by Aggregate Industries, a manufacturer of construction materials such as concrete and cement.

RP Masiello Inc. said in an announcement that the buildings will be made of steel-frame structure with insulated metal wall panels and a decorative split-block façade.

The buildings will be located at the end of a new road called Unified Parkway.

The contractor’s announcement cited, “a surging demand for packaging driven by the exponential growth of online consumer purchasing,” as the reason for the new location.

“These new buildings will help UN1F1ED² keep pace and create capacity for future growth,” announcement said.
