Consumer Business Recap: Big Box Retailers’ New PLOY, Ford ONSHORES Jobs

Several big box retailers, such as Best Buy Co. (BBY), Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (WMT), and Macy’s Inc. (NYSE:M), are currently testing a new geotargeted coupon application that will transmit deals to smartphones. The big players are testing out SpotAds from Spotzot to determine if consumers will purchase more if they are told about hidden deals. A pertinent question is how many shoppers will actively use their mobile phones to compare prices at the point of purchase.

Shares of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. (GMCR) moved way up on Monday, with the promise of higher jumps in the offing. However, Seeking Alpha author Qineqt is concentrating upon the fundamental factors such as questions about inventory, and the impact of heightening rivalry on profit margins.

Bringing work back (!) from Mexico, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) intends to add 1,200 workers to a Detroit plant which will initiate the building of its Fusion model. In addition, Ford plans to spend $555 million for new equipment at the plant, which implies by itself its confidence that the reconfigured model will experience a jump in demand.
