Coronation Street actress Dolly-Rose Campbell has come out as bisexual. Campbell, 31, who’s played Gemma Winter on Corrie since 2014, confirmed her sexuality as she discussed being named an ambassador for Manchester Pride.
“I have been coming to pride for over a decade now. The love and acceptance shown by the people of Manchester allowed me to accept my bisexuality and be proud of who I am,” Campbell said.
“The work that Manchester Pride does throughout the year to engage with and create opportunities for people in Manchester’s LGBTQ+ community and beyond makes a huge difference to so many people’s lives,” she added.
Campbell provides the voiceover for the short film titled ‘Mine is The Pride‘ for Manchester Pride 2019. “It was an honour to do the voiceover for this video,” she said, “Manchester Pride is one of my favourite times of the year in Manchester.
“It is a time when everyone comes together to show that love and kindness will always triumph over hate and prejudice.”
Campbell has quickly become a fan favourite on the soap for her portrayal of Gemma Winter.
Gemma is known for her comedic antics while working at Dev Alahan’s kebab shop and now at The Rover’s Return. She’s also recently embarked on a new romance with Chesney Brown.
Campbell has won several awards for her portrayal of Winter, including Best Comedy Performance at the British Soap Awards 2017 and Funniest Female at the 2018 Inside Soap Awards.
Manchester Pride is scheduled for August 24 – August 25 this year. Additional celebrity ambassadors for Manchester Pride include singer and songwriter Lucy Spraggan, Coronation Street actor Daniel Brocklebank and Holby City actress Annie Wallace.
