Last night's (July 19) episode of Coronation Street saw Chesney Brown momentarily forget his home's history when he declared he couldn't live in a house that someone had been killed in.

When his pregnant ex-girlfriend Gemma Winter showed him a newspaper ad for a five-bedroom house nearby – in the hopes that he'd agree to buy it with her before their quadruplets arrive – Chesney (Sam Aston) was shocked to learn why it was so reasonably priced and dismissed her plans.

"I don't think I could live in a house where there's been a murder," he said.

But shortly after the scene aired, an avid Corrie fan drew attention to the fact that Chesney is currently living somewhere that has seen a similarly grisly crime – and what's worse, it involved someone in his family at the time.

"Chesney wouldn't want to live in a house where there'd been a murder," Twitter user Barry Smith wrote online. "Didn't John Stape kill Charlotte in no. 5?"

The ITV soap's official account replied: "Shh, don't remind Chesney!"

Back in 2010, Chesney's sister Fiz was married to John, who bludgeoned teacher Charlotte Hoyle with a hammer. The pair had been involved in covering-up Colin Fishwick's death and through the ordeal, Charlotte had fallen for John.

When he made it clear to her that he wanted to stay with Fiz, Charlotte was the one who initially started waving the DIY tool around, but John wrestled it out of her hands and used it against her instead.

Other Twitter users had their say about the gaffe, with one tweeting: "To be fair it's hard to live on that street and not be in a house where someone's been murdered."

"He lived 2 doors down from a serial killer fgs [sic]," a third said.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
