Coronation Street's Geoff Metcalfe stoops to a new low next week, as he lets his estranged partner Yasmeen Nazir believe that he could have cancer.
Viewers have just seen Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) walk out on Yasmeen as part of their ongoing coercive control storyline, but he's still secretly spying on her via a hidden camera that he left running in her home.
Upcoming episodes will see Geoff play for Yasmeen's sympathy by letting her believe that he's experiencing health problems. In reality, there's absolutely nothing wrong with him and he merely wants to make Yasmeen feel sorry for him.
Next week, Yasmeen (Shelley King) is heading home with her granddaughter Alya when they both bump into Geoff.
Yasmeen kindly asks after Geoff's health, explaining to Alya (Sair Khan) that he has been suffering from heart palpitations.
Afterwards, Alya privately tells Geoff that he still means a lot to Yasmeen, so he shouldn't give up on her.
Later on, Geoff steps up his scheming by giving Yasmeen a list of his non-existent symptoms.
A horrified Yasmeen thinks that Geoff could have cancer – and he shamelessly lets her believe that it could be a possibility.
Yasmeen goes easy on Geoff in the days that follow, refusing to let him lift a finger when he arrives for a shift at Speed Daal.
However, when Geoff's son Tim (Joe Duttine) later catches Yasmeen holding his hand and offering words of comfort, he's confused over what's going on.
Yasmeen realises that Tim has no idea about Geoff's supposed illness, so urges him to be more honest. Has Geoff bitten off more than he can chew with his lies?
Coronation Street airs these scenes on Wednesday, August 28 and Friday, August 30 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
Organisations including Women's Aid can provide further support and information on coercive control or coercive behaviour.
