Coronation Street's Alexandra Mardell has paid a touching tribute to her late father Michael.
He sadly passed away back in 2016 after a battle with the heart disease cardiomyopathy, and the actress – Emma Brooker on the ITV soap – is honouring his legacy by taking part in this summer's Manchester Great Run.
Alexandra has currently raised £1,385 in donations and all proceeds will go to Cardiomyopathy UK following the 10k run.
She wrote to her followers: "I am taking part in the@great_run to raise awareness and donate to @cardiomyopathyuk. My Dad passed away 3 years ago from this disease. It came as a shock to us all and was something we had never heard of. My Dad was larger than life and I hope his spirit helps me through!
"Due to my personal history @cardiomyopathyuk have advised me to walk the 10k as a precaution."
"I have always struggled with running but I have tried to build up my ability over this past few months," she continued. "I am certainly no Usain Bolt, but I have improved and will do my best to run and walk in intervals, to push myself but stay safe. Complete not compete!
"I hope my participation in this run and the extremely generous donations have helped other families suffering from Cardiomyopathy. Knowledge is power. Thank you to everyone again who has donated so far and for your support! There is a link in my bio for more info and link to my Just Giving page. Look after your heart."
Good luck, Alexandra!
