'We couldn't ask for much more' - Nabbout applauds Jets' Roar rout

Three first-timers were named in the green-and-gold squad for the two friendlies in March with recalls for four others

In-form winger Andrew Nabbout has credited the strong bond in the Newcastle Jets squad for their thumping A-League win over Brisbane Roar on Sunday.

The Jets cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory over Roar at McDonald Jones Stadium to hand new boss Mark Jones his first win as Newcastle coach.

A Jack Hingert own goal had the home side in front at the break before the the game blew open in the second half, with skipper Nigel Boogaard, Steve Ugarkovic and Devante Clut all getting on the scoresheet.

"It was a good effort by the boys. Last year we didn't score many goals, this year 4-0… we couldn't ask for much more," Nabbout told Fox Sports.

"The camaraderie here is unbelievable.

"I'm just so happy for the boys, the coaching staff but more importantly the fans that come out and support us week in, week out and it's time to repay that faith."

Nabbout was a constant threat to Roar's defence, terrorising Corey Brown down the Jets' right wing with his driving runs and excellent dribbling skills.

It was the former Melbourne Victory man's cross that forced Hingert into error for Newcastle's first-half opener, before he also set up Clut's late goal to be named best on ground for the second straight week.

"I've just been getting minutes in the off-season," said Nabbout when asked about his blistering form in the first two rounds.

"That's been the most important thing. To get my fitness up, my confidence is up and I couldn't ask for a better start.

"We just have to keep building on that now."

The Jets are on the road for the first time next weekend, taking on Western Sydney Wanderers at Spotless Stadium on Sunday.
