Montreal failed to earn a win that would have assured the club of a spot in the playoffs, but New England's loss to the Chicago Fire was enough for the Impact.

United left nothing to chance, running away with a 3-1 win over New York City FC to earn a playoff spot.

Also of note, the New York Red Bulls locked up a knockout-round bye with a 3-2 win over the Columbus Crew.

New York City FC and Toronto FC, along with the Red Bulls, had playoff spots already clinched entering the weekend.

The New England loss also opened up a golden chance for the Philadelphia Union, who could have clinched a playoff place with only a draw against Orlando City, but City pulled the upset, working out a 2-0 win.
