Daily ETF Flows: Assets Reach Record $1.4T
Investors poured $217 million into U.S. ETFs on Thursday, Jan. 17, and stocks rose, lifting total assets in U.S.-listed ETFs to a record-breaking $1.4 trillion.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 84.79 points, 0.63 percent, to 13,596.02, providing most of the fuel for yesterday’s rise in total assets.
Total assets now amount to a record $1.403 trillion, according to data compiled by IndexUniverse. That figure includes money invested in U.S.-listed exchange-traded notes.
The latest record comes on the eve of the 20 th anniversary of the very first U.S. exchange-traded fund, the SPDR S'P 500 ETF (SPY). SPY, a $124 billion ETF, accounts for almost 9 percent of the asset total.
SPY suffered outflows of $1.62 billion in yesterday’s trading session, putting it at the top of IndexUniverse’s daily redemptions list.
