Demi Lovato reportedly agrees to go to rehab, will go straight from hospital to an inpatient facility
Demi Lovato has reportedly agreed to enter rehab after her overdose on July 24, according to TMZ.
TMZ reports that the singer has already made plans with the facility to enter treatment, as she is expected to be released from the hospital sometime this week. Demi’s family had allegedly declined to bring up the subject of rehab earlier due to fear of upsetting her while she dealt with complications following her drug overdose.
Inpatient rehabs have a higher success rate than outpatient facilities, when it comes to treating serious addiction. Demi can be expected to receive 24-hour medical and emotional support without the pressures of everyday life. Programs at inpatient centers usually range from 28 days to six months.
It is still not known which facility Demi, who relapsed after six years of sobriety, will enter. People close to Lovato told her that they would cut her out of their lives if she did not get treatment.
The singer has been open in the past about her abuse of alcohol, cocaine, and oxycodone, an opioid painkiller. Although it’s unclear precisely what substance precipitated her overdose, friends of Lovato reportedly treated her with the opioid antidote Narcan.
Lovato, now 25, entered rehab for the first time in 2010, when she was also diagnosed as bipolar and received therapy for an eating disorder and self-harming. She relapsed shortly after seeking treatment; in 2012, she reentered inpatient rehab, then resided in a sober living facility for a year.
