Diabetes Care for Adults, Children Is Topic of Nov. 14 Dinner Program

Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Hosts Dinner Program With Doctors

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - Nov 5, 2012) - Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center (PSMEMC) is hosting a program "Can You Control the Ups and Downs of Diabetes?" to help individuals learn more about how to successfully treat and manage this disease to lead healthier lives. The dinner program will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 14 at Webster's Wine Bar, 1480 W. Webster Ave., Chicago.

PSMEMC physicians will discuss the latest in diabetes care for adults and children, glucose monitoring and insulin pump therapy, and the latest in prevention and nutrition guidelines.
Speakers at the program include:

  • Ameha Joba, D.P.M., joined the medical staff in 2011 after completing the podiatry residency program at PSMEMC.

  • Nunilo G. Rubio, M.D., is board certified in internal medicine and specializes in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. In practice for 40 years, Dr. Rubio's clinical interests include diabetes, hormonal, metabolic and thyroid problems.

Diabetes is a serious disease that can be life threatening if not controlled. It is often associated with long-term complications that can affect every system and part of the body. Diabetes is a disorder in which an individual has high blood sugar because either the body doesn't make enough insulin or the cells do not respond to insulin that is produced. In the United States, 25.8 million children and adults -- 8.8 percent of the population -- have diabetes, according to 2011 data from the American Diabetes Association.
