ROCHESTER, NY--(Marketwired - Oct 9, 2013) - PT (
"Our announcement of the Diameter to MAP Interworking function for the SEGway UDR marks a significant next step in PT's ongoing focus to deliver solutions for both emerging LTE/EPC/Diameter and existing SS7-based signaling networks," said John Slusser, President and CEO of PT. "This capability will allow the broadest range of mobility for subscribers while protecting service providers' investment in existing network infrastructure."
As service providers continue the rapid deployment of LTE/EPC, providing enhanced capabilities to their subscribers, a problem arises when these subscribers roam to non LTE/EPC/Diameter-based networks, i.e. 2G/3G networks. The network architectures and the underlying protocols used within each of these networks are different.
- 2G /3G uses SS7/TCAP/MAP to manage mobility
- LTE/EPC uses Diameter to manage mobility
The SEGway UDR, including Diameter to MAP interworking, solves the issue of subscriber roaming to disparate networks by fully supporting the 3GPP 129.305 specification for interworking between Diameter and MAP, allowing LTE/EPC subscribers to roam seamlessly between LTE/EPC networks and 2G/3G networks.
"The Diameter to SS7/MAP interworking function addresses the GSMA recommendations for interworking and adheres to the 3GPP specifications," said Virgil Long, Vice President Product Management of PT. "The addition of this capability into our SEGway portfolio further demonstrates our commitment to provide telecommunications providers with an ever-expanding set of flexible solutions to deploy as they navigate the ongoing network signaling evolution."
PT's SEGway Signaling solutions are deployed in over one thousand locations, providing the Signaling backbone for many of the world's premier wireless networks. With its small footprint and high throughput capacity, SEGway is widely recognized as the industry's leading signaling architecture, with the ability to scale from small to very large networks.
