ATHENS, Greece (AP) _ Diana Shipping inc. (DSX) on Thursday reported a loss of $436.9 million in its fourth quarter.
On a per-share basis, the Athens, Greece-based company said it had a loss of $4.28. Losses, adjusted for asset impairment costs, were 15 cents per share.
The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 16 cents per share.
The shipping company posted revenue of $48.9 million in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $45.9 million, also beating Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $44 million.
For the year, the company reported that its loss widened to $511.7 million, or $5.41 per share. Revenue was reported as $153.3 million.
The company's shares closed at $3.82. A year ago, they were trading at $4.13.
