Director Glenn Weiss Proposes in the Most Moving Way While Accepting His Emmy Award
Rewinding, replaying and crying. Director Glenn Weiss experienced a career highlight while accepting an Emmy Award on Monday, September 17, and it overlapped perfectly with another momentous occasion: a proposal to his girlfriend Jan Svendsen.
Weiss accepted the Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special award for ‘The Oscars’ at the annual star-studded occasion. While delivering a rousing speech from inside Microsoft Theater, he then focused his attention to Svendsen, seated in the audience down below.

“I’m really grateful to be here, but it’s bittersweet,” he said. “The person most proud at this moment would be my mom, and she passed away just two weeks ago. Part of my heart is broken, I don’t think it will ever be repaired, but she’s in me, and she always will be. Mom always believed in finding the sunshine in things, and she adored my girlfriend Jan.”
He then paused and said, “Jan, you are the sunshine in my life, and Mom was right. Don’t ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife.”
The audience immediately roared in response as the cameras panned to her expression. She then began to make her way over to Weiss on stage.
“This is the ring that my dad put on my mom’s finger 67 years ago,” he joked. “And to my sister and brothers: I didn’t swipe it. Dad knows I have it, OK? Jan, I want to put this ring that my mom wore on your finger in front of all these people and in front of my mom and your parents watching from above. Will you marry me?”

She then went on stage as he got down on one knee to propose. Stars and onlookers alike cheered in response while Twitter suddenly was filled with a range of reactions.
