SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) _ Discovery Communications Inc. (DISCA) on Tuesday reported second-quarter net income of $216 million.
On a per-share basis, the Silver Spring, Maryland-based company said it had net income of 30 cents. Earnings, adjusted for amortization costs, came to 66 cents per share.
The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 84 cents per share.
The operator of cable TV channels such as TLC and Animal Planet posted revenue of $2.85 billion in the period, matching Street forecasts.
Discovery shares have risen 20 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed almost 7 percent. The stock has increased 13 percent in the last 12 months.
