Discovery misses, ad sales up

The operator of Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, Science and other nonfiction TV networks said Q4 EPS fell 29% to 61 cents, missing views by 15 cents. But revenue rose 9% to $1.2 bil, in line with estimates. U.S. advertising revenue climbed 9% to $397 mil and int'l ad revenue jumped 16% to $185 mil. The rise in advertising wasn't enough to offset high taxes and costs related to Discovery's (DISCA) acquisition of Germany's ProSiebenSat's Scandinavian television stations for $1.7 bil. Shares fell 1%.
