Disgraced former NBA referee Tim Donaghy, who did prison time for his role in one of the the biggest scandals in NBA history, has been arrested after a man accused him of threatening him with a hammer.

Donaghy, whose prison stint came courtesy of betting on NBA games that he officiated, was charged with aggravated assault in Bradenton, Fla. Monday for an incident involving his 19-year-old daughter, according to an affidavit provided to USA Today.

Donaghy arrived at a Bradenton house Monday morning looking for his daughter, who was friends of the homeowner’s daughter, the report details. Concerned that his daughter was using drugs in the house, Donaghy confronted her in the street.

This confrontation prompted the homeowner to intervene, the report continues.

When the homeowner approached, Donaghy, allegedly wielding a hammer, told the man “if he came any closer, (Donaghy) was going to hit him with it.”

Details are sparse in the report. Like, where did the hammer come from? And what kind of confrontation was Donaghy having with his daughter?

Donaghy’s attorney told TMZ, who had the initial report, that Donaghy did not assault anyone and was only looking out for his daughter’s well being.

Donaghy served 15 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud and transmitting wagering information through interstate commerce involving NBA games he bet on while officiating from 2005-07.
