Disney closes theme parks amid Coronavirus outbreaks

  • Disney has announced that it will shut theme parks in California, Florida and Paris amid the outbreak of Coronavirus.

  • The closures will begin this weekend, and are expected to last until the end of March.


For only the fourth time since its opening in 1955, Disney's California theme park will shut this weekend amid Coronavirus worries - along with its Florida and Paris counterparts. The theme parks will be shut for two weeks, until the end of March, in a bid to help prevent the spread of the disease.

Hotels at Disneyland California and Disney California Adventure will remain open until Monday (March 16), while Disneyland Paris and Disney World hotels will stay open until further notice, as will Disney Springs in Orlando and Disney Village in Paris.

In a statement, Disney said: "While there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 at Disneyland Resort, after carefully reviewing the guidelines of the Governor of California's executive order and in the best interest of our guests and employees, we are proceeding with the closure of Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure, beginning the morning of March 14 through the end of the month.

"The Hotels of Disneyland Resort will remain open until Monday, March 16, to give guests the ability to make necessary travel arrangements; Downtown Disney will remain open."

It added: "We will monitor the ongoing situation and follow the advice and guidance of federal and state officials and health agencies. Disney will continue to pay cast members during this time."

Yesterday it was announced that Glastonbury will be going ahead in June, will the full line-up revealed.

However, other festivals such as Coachella have been postponed, while movie releases are also being delayed until later in the year.
