DLA Piper Picks Up Herbert Smith Freehills' Asia Debt Capital Markets Head

DLA Piper has hired Herbert Smith Freehills' former Asia debt capital markets head Philip Lee as a corporate partner in Singapore.

Lee specializes in debt capital markets and securities transactions in India and Southeast Asia. Last year, he represented Indonesian state-owned engineering and construction company PT Wijaya Karya Tbk on a $400 million rupiah-denominated bond offer. Also in 2018, he advised the joint lead managers on a $155 million issue of renminbi-denominated bonds by Indian infrastructure company IL&FS Transportation Networks Ltd.

Lee joined Herbert Smith Freehills as a partner in 2012 after five years at Allen & Overy, where he was most recently a consultant. Previously, he practiced at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London and the legacy Freehills in Perth.

"Growing our corporate and finance offering in Asia is a key priority for us," DLA Piper's Asia co-managing partner Li Qiang said in a statement.

Last year, the global legal giant added corporate partner Henry Cheng from Kirkland & Ellis and capital markets partner Yang Ge in Beijing from Shearman & Sterling, where she was counsel.

Herbert Smith Freehills Hong Kong partner William Ku has taken over as Asia debt capital markets head.
