A Dog Was Found Dead After Being Placed in the Cargo Hold on a Transatlantic Flight
A dog died on an Air France-KLM flight on Tuesday, according to a source who spoke to TMZ.
The dog was incorrectly loaded into the cargo hold.
A dog was found dead in a plane’s cargo hold after a flight from Amsterdam to Los Angeles, a source told TMZ.
The dog, which sources said looked like a husky, died after a 10-hour Air France-KLM flight across the Atlantic. An Air France employee said the dog was loaded incorrectly into the cargo hold and it lost oxygen during the flight. According to KLM’s pet policy, large dogs aren’t allowed to travel in the cabin, which would mean a husky would have to travel below.
This is by no means the first dog to die on a plane trip. Last year, a puppy died on a United flight after a flight attendant allegedly forced its owner to store it in the overhead compartment, even though it was clearly a dog.
An eyewitness on that plane told People that while the dog was making noise during the plane’s takeoff, it went silent after about 30 minutes of flight time.
United apologized for the incident, calling “a tragedy.”
“This was a tragic accident that should never have occurred, as pets should never be placed in the overhead bin. We assume full responsibility for this tragedy and express our deepest condolences to the family and are committed to supporting them. We are thoroughly investigating what occurred to prevent this from ever happening again.”
