Dow stocks was higher on Monday, with 3M Co. (NYSE:MMM) and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) pulling the index up. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.15% to 27,234, the S&P 500 index fell 0.16% to 3,020 and the NasdaqComposite Index dipped 0.51% to 8,288.
Shares of Anadarko Petroleum Corp. (NYSE:APC) slid more than 0.5% after the company announced second-quarter results. It posted earnings of 51 cents per share on $3.44 billion in revenue, reflecting 4.6% growth from the prior-year quarter. The company fell 4 cents short of earnings estimates, but beat revenue expectations by $130 million.
During the quarter, the volume of oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids reached 68 million barrels of oil equivalent, a median of 744,000 BOE per day, which included 434,000 barrels of oil per day. In the Gulf of Mexico, the average was 158,000 BOE per day, which included 130,000 barrels of oil per day. Internationally, the company averaged 102,000 BOE per day, which included 97,000 barrels of oil per day.
During the quarter ended March 31, Mario Gabelli boosted his stake by 4.4% to 233,096 shares, Ray Dalio beefed up his position by 84% to 45,133 shares, Dodge & Cox added 3% to its holding of 4,401,436 shares, Jim Simons (Trades, Portfolio) increased his position by 271% to 2,920,800 shares and T Boone Pickens (Trades, Portfolio) added 20.3% to hold 56,474 shares. Steven Cohen (Trades, Portfolio) increased his stake by 174% to 5,064,558 shares, while Paul Tudor Jones (Trades, Portfolio) reduced his holding by 59% to 53,927 shares and Caxton Associates (Trades, Portfolio) and Joel Greenblatt (Trades, Portfolio) sold out of their positions.

In Asia, Japan's Nikkei 225 lost 0.19%, India's BSE Sensex declined 0.52%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng retreated 1.03% and China's Shanghai Composite dipped 0.12%.
