The Dow Chemical Company’s (DOW) wholly-owned subsidiary, Dow AgroSciences LLC, and MS Technologies declared that its Enlist E3 soybeans have successfully completed the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (:FDA) consultation. This is the third Enlist trait to complete the FDA Review for food and feed safety.
The data submitted to the regulatory authority was enough to conclude that Enlist E3 soybeans are at par in context of composition, safety, and other relevant parameters with soybean-derived food and feed currently available in the market.
This innovative technology combines unique traits, herbicides, and stewardship to meet challenging control weed issues faced by farmers. The technology is part of the Enlist Weed Control System and helps crops reach full yield through beneficial farming practices.
For the first time, the Enlist E3 soybean event has been designed with three herbicide-tolerant genes stacked together as part of a single genetic event in the soybean genome. The introduced genes in the Enlist E3 soybean event offer tolerance to Dow AgroSciences’ new 2,4-D product, glyphosate, and glufosinate.
Dow AgroSciences and MS Technologies have collaborated to develop Enlist E3 soybeans. The product will be made available in the market in high-yielding varieties, widely available in different brands for farmers who want effective weed control and improved yield.
MS Technologies is a premier trait, technology and soybean genetics provider. It presents a portfolio of in-house traits, including a variety of herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant traits, as well as wide access to other traits and technologies through collaborative agreements with other parties.
Recently, Dow AgroSciences, announced that it has received the U.S. patent for its 2,4-D herbicide tolerance event in Enlist corn. The corn event is based on one of Dow AgroSciences' Enlist herbicide-tolerant traits. It provides strong tolerance to broadleaf and grass herbicides, including 2,4-D and the FOP family of herbicides.
The patent provides proprietary protection for corn plants comprising the event and methods of using Enlist corn for controlling glyphosate-resistant weeds. Dow AgroSciences expects to launch Enlist corn in the U.S. in 2015, after receiving the pending approvals.
The patent for Enlist corn consolidates Dow’s leadership in trait technology. The company’s Enlist Weed Control System will enable farmers to control both broadleaf weeds and grasses in corn, and will provide them with new solutions to meet challenging weed control issues.
Dow currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
