A driver is facing a vehicular homicide charge following a fatal, head-on crash near Percy Priest Lake Sunday night, Nashville police reported.
The wreck took place on Bell Road near Ned Shelton Road, the Metro Nashville police Department reported.
Police reported Freddie Smith, 23, was driving north in a Kia Optima when a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling south on Bell Road crossed the double yellow lines and struck the Optima.
Smith was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the truck, Daniel Rocha-Villanueva, 25, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said the man appeared to be impaired and admitted to drinking alcohol before the crash. His blood will be tested to determine its blood alcohol content, detectives said.
In addition to vehicular homicide by intoxication, upon his release from the hospital, Rocha-Villanueva will be charged with driving without a license and failure to provide proof of insurance.
This is a developing story.
