Clearly Dunkin’ Brands (DNKN) is trying to bring the plant-based food craze to average America.
The company’s Baskin’ Robbins ice cream brand said Thursday it will debut two plant-based ice creams beginning August 1. Baskin’ Robbins’s new ice creams are made from a blend coconut oil and almond butter, which should get all SoulCycle class taking young millennials charged up.
Dunkin — long a haven for tasty but processed breakfast foods — is having quite the week on the health front.
The company announced Wednesday it inked a partnership with surging plant-based meat purveyor Beyond Meat (BYND). Dunkin’s first product drop with Beyond Meat — which debuted for a limited-time Wednesday at more than 190 Manhattan restaurants – is the Beyond Sausage Breakfast Sandwich.
Dunkin’ said it’s the first U.S. restaurant brand to serve a breakfast sandwich featuring Beyond Meat’s faux sausage. That better-for-you food sandwich message will fit nicely alongside a similar one now at Baskin’ Robbins.
“We absolutely believe this will move the sales needle for us,” Dunkin’ Brands CEO David Hoffmann told Yahoo Finance, referring to the Beyond Meat tie-up. Hoffmann is already eyeing a broader roll out of the product this year “It’s a damn good product.”
“We are a brand that democratizes trends,” added Hoffmann.
In other words, it wants to make it somewhat affordable to eat plant-based sausage and ice cream for breakfast.
