Things are about to get even more fabulous on Dynasty, as a glamorous original character will be making their debut in the rebooted series very soon.
With Nicollette Sheridan having bowed out of the role of Alexis Colby in Friday's episode (March 22) as she leaves the show for personal reasons, the show is gearing up to introduce another iconic character in the form of Dominique Deveraux.
As reported by TVLine, Dominique Deveraux is on her way to Atlanta to stir things up for her estranged half-brother Blake Carrington (Grant Show) towards the end of the show's current season.
The iconic role, which was played by Diahann Carroll in the original Dynasty during the '80s, will be taken on by former ER and Gossip Girl star Michael Michele.
"Honoured and excited to join the amazing cast of Dynasty!" Michael said. "I love coming back to Atlanta in this incredible, dynamic role created by the one and only, Ms Diahann Carroll in the original Dynasty."
In a second update, she also added: "So excited! It's not everyday that we as actors get to revisit roles made famous by such remarkable and iconic characters. Diahann Carroll represented more than just a tv character; she represented possibilities and firsts.
"I’m truly honoured. The cast and crew here in Atlanta are class acts and have been absolutely wonderful and welcoming. I couldn’t possibly ask for more."
Dominique is the matriarch of the Colby family, and is described as a "fabulously elegant, self-made woman, known for her outrageous fashion sense and penchant for drama".
But it looks pretty likely that her arrival will cause all sorts of trouble for the Carringtons too, as they question her true intentions.
And with there being potential for Dominique to become a series regular in the recently-announced season 3, it looks like she'll be making a very big impression.
Although Nicollette Sheridan has left the role of Alexis, the role is expected to be recast, which means The CW's Dynasty fans could still see one of Alexis Colby and Dominique Deveraux's epic clashes – and maybe even a catfight or two.
"Working on the Dynasty reboot and reprising the iconic role of Alexis has been thoroughly enjoyable, but the chance to spend precious time with my terminally ill mother is more important to me right now," Sheridan said in a statement confirming her exit.
"I am hopeful that my fans will embrace my successor with as much passion as they embraced me."
Dynasty airs on The CW in the US and on Netflix in the UK.
