E.W. Scripps: 2Q Earnings Snapshot

CINCINNATI (AP) _ E.W. Scripps Co. (SSP) on Friday reported second-quarter net income of $5.7 million.

On a per-share basis, the Cincinnati-based company said it had profit of 6 cents. Earnings, adjusted to account for discontinued operations and restructuring costs, were 12 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 9 cents per share.

The television and radio company posted revenue of $283.4 million in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $275.7 million.

E.W. Scripps shares have fallen 17 percent since the beginning of the year.
