Earnings Spotlight: Adobe Systems (ADBE) - Adobe's shares have galloped past the broader market this year, up nearly 70% year-to-date versus a still-impressive 25% gain for the Nasdaq. That's in large part due to a string of quarterly earnings beats for the fiscal year ended Dec. 1, which the Photoshop creator hopes to complete after Thursday's closing bell with a better-than-expected Q4 report. Analysts expect Adobe to close out the year with a bang, projecting a 21.4% year-over-year jump in sales to $1.95 billion, filtering down to a 29% boost in profits to $1.16 per share. UBS is among the 23 analyst firms bullish on the stock at the moment, initiating it at "Buy" in November amid claims that investors don't fully appreciate its efficient cost structure.

Earnings Spotlight: Costco Wholesale (COST) - Costco is among numerous companies that analysts fear Amazon.com (AMZN) will crush, and the warehousing giant did in fact take a big hit this summer after Amazon announced it was buying organic grocer Whole Foods. However, COST shares have been recovering for months. Optimism over GOP tax cuts - retailers are among the biggest potential winners - and a brisk November sales report combined to hoist the stock to all-time highs. Costco reports its earnings for the quarter ended Nov. 26 after Thursday's closing bell, and analysts will be looking for $1.34 per share in profits (+14.5% year-over-year) on $31.4 billion in revenues (+11.7%).
