Eastern Michigan came up with a really cool idea to honor its seniors Tuesday night.

When the Eagles host Bowling Green for its senior day game, also the season finale, the players will wear special helmets that feature the numbers of each departing senior inside the school’s block “E” logo.

Take a look:

Before the game, the team’s 20 seniors from the class of 2017 will be honored on the field. The helmet is a nice touch on top of the usual senior day festivities.

The game against Bowling Green is the season finale for the Eagles. EMU, 4-7 (2-5 MAC) on the year, won’t be returning to a bowl game (the 2016 Bahamas Bowl was the program’s first bowl since 1987) for a second year in a row, but could finish the season winning three of its final four games.

It’s been kind of a “what if” season for the Eagles. After a 2-0 start, they lost six straight games by seven points or fewer: 27-20 (2OT) to Ohio, 24-20 to Kentucky, 20-15 to Toledo, 28-27 to Army, 20-17 (OT) to Western Michigan and 30-27 (OT) to Northern Illinois.

That’s a brutal stretch, but Chris Creighton’s team responded by winning two of its last three. A win over Bowling Green (2-9, 2-5 MAC) would be a pretty solid way to close out the season.

Tuesday night’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. and is one of three games for the final edition of #MACtion for the 2017 season. Akron can clinch the MAC East title, its first since 2005, with a home win over Kent State while Ball State hosts Miami (Ohio).
