TORONTO, Feb. 28, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ECN Capital Corp. (ECN.TO) (“ECN Capital” or the “Company”) today reported financial results for the three-month period and fiscal year ending December 31, 2018. Readers should note that as of January 1, 2018, the Company changed its presentation and functional currency from Canadian dollars to U.S. dollars. In addition, readers should note that legacy operations have been discontinued and classified as held for sale as of the fourth quarter 2018.
For the three-month period ending December 31, 2018, ECN Capital reported Adjusted net income (loss) applicable to common shareholders from continuing operations of $15.4 million or $0.05 per share (basic) versus $17.0 million or $0.05 per share (basic) for the previous three-month period ending September 30, 2018 and ($0.3) million or $0.00 per share (basic) for the same period last year. For the 12-month period, the Company reported Adjusted net Income (loss) applicable to common shareholders of $36.6 million or $0.11 per share (basic) versus ($22.0) million or ($0.06) per share (basic) for the same period last year.
Originations for the three-month period ending December 31, 2018 were $463 million versus $509 million in the previous three-month period and $213 million for the same period last year.
Total Earning Assets Managed and Advised as at December 31, 2018 were $31.1 billion, versus $28.8 billion as at September 30, 2018.
Adjusted EBITDA, net of provision for credit losses, for the three-month period ending December 31, 2018 was $34.1 million versus $38.0 million for the previous three-month period and $6.3 million for the same period last year.
Operating Expenses for the three-month period ending December 31, 2018 were $33.3 million versus $31.6 million reported for the previous three-month period ending September 30, 2018 and $10.4 million for the same period last year.
Net Income (loss) for the three-month period ending December 31, 2018 was ($105.1) million versus ($57.5) million for the previous three-month period and ($8.3) million for the same period last year. For the 12-month period ending December 31, 2018 the Company reported net income (loss) of ($156.7) million versus $60.1 million for the same period last year.
Book Value per Common Share as at December 31, 2018 was $3.14 versus $3.47 as at the end of the previous three-month period and $3.56 for the same period last year.

The Company’s Board of Directors has authorized an increase in the quarterly dividend declaring $0.02 per outstanding common share of ECN Capital for the fourth quarter of 2018. The dividend will be paid on April 15, 2019 to shareholders of record at the close of business on March 29, 2019. These dividends are designated to be eligible dividends for purposes of section 89(1) of the Income Tax Act (Canada).
The Company’s Board of Directors declared the following dividends on ECN Capital’s preferred shares:
- A quarterly dividend of $0.40625 per outstanding Cumulative 5-Year Rate Reset Preferred Share, Series A (TSX:ECN.PR.A) payable on April 1, 2019 to shareholders of record on the close of business on March 18, 2019. These dividends are designated to be eligible dividends for purposes of section 89(1) of the Income Tax Act (Canada).
- A quarterly dividend of $0.390625 per outstanding Cumulative 5-Year Rate Reset Preferred Share, Series C (TSX:ECN.PR.C) payable on April 1, 2019 to shareholders of record on the close of business on March 18, 2019. These dividends are designated to be eligible dividends for purposes of section 89(1) of the Income Tax Act (Canada).
