Economic reports slow down this week

David Russell (david.russell@optionmonster.com)

The calendar quiets significantly this week, with no major economic releases on the schedule.

The first events don't occur until Wednesday, when the Mortgage Bankers Association releases weekly home-loan applications and the Energy Department announces crude-oil inventories.

Thursday is the busiest session, with retailers reporting same-store sales for April, the Labor Department publishing weekly jobless claims and the Energy Department issuing natural-gas inventories.

Nothing is scheduled for Friday.
