PALO ALTO, Calif. (AP) _ Eiger BioPharmaceuticals Inc. (EIGR) on Friday reported a loss of $17.1 million in its third quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Palo Alto, California-based company said it had a loss of $1.20.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 74 cents per share.

Eiger BioPharma shares have fallen 17 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased roughly 10 percent in the last 12 months.
