BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Energen Corp. (EGN) on Tuesday reported second-quarter profit of $68.3 million.

The Birmingham, Alabama-based company said it had net income of 70 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to 77 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 75 cents per share.

The energy holding company posted revenue of $339.6 million in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $336.8 million.

Energen shares have climbed 29 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen 48 percent in the last 12 months.
